Bitsy, the Therapy Dog

It is with a heavy heart that I have to share that my sweet Bitsy is no longer with us. She will never be forgotten and has a legacy of much love, comfort, joy and true therapy given to countless hearts. She will always be missed and cherished.

I do have a new doggie, Abby, whose name means “Joy,” and when she grows out of her puppy ways and gets trained, I hope to bring her into our sessions in the future.

Benefits of Therapy Dogs in Counseling

Therapy dogs like Bitsy provide a calming, accepting presence as soon as you sit down on the couch with her. You can stroke her soft fur and feel her warmth beside you. She may even snuggle up against you and give you doggie kisses on your hand. Or she will give you space and quietly nap nearby.

Therapy dogs like Bitsy are shown to have distinct physiological benefits in counseling, as well. Their loving, nonjudgmental, gracious nature can lower blood pressure, calm anxiety, and give an encouraging lift to depression. If you have experienced trauma, rejection, feel alone, or are just hurting - Bitsy and I together will be there for you. Just feeling her heart beating, her life next to you, will remind you that there is hope and you are not facing anything alone.

She says, “Please come see me. I look forward to being with you!”
